Nebraska Success Stories
Financing for well ensures water supply and safety
Where:
Village of Oakdale located in Antelope County in northeast Nebraska.
Problem:
A failed backup well required renovation.
Solution:
Midwest Assistance Program, Inc. staff provided information on low-interest loans and is helping the community to secure a backup-well renovation loan.
The Village of Oakdale is a low-income community located in northeast Nebraska and is home to 345 residents.
The village’s backup well recently failed. If its main well were to fail, the village is at a dangerous risk of being without potable water and fire protection.
While the village is not under an administrative order, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has strongly recommended that the community repair the well as quickly as possible.
Oakdale had recently raised its user rates, which is a long-term fix, but doesn’t provide the community with any short-term funds adequate to repair their well.
MAP staff is in the process of providing information on sources of and applying for low-interest loans to facilitate the repair of Oakdale’s backup well.
Oakdale’s failed backup well threatens the community’s water supply and fire protection.
