Experiences Sought: Volunteer board members come from a variety of backgrounds. Among the knowledge/experience we find helpful: state and local government administration, public works (sewer/water), economic development, finance, non-profit administration, elected officials, community development, community services, regional planning, and, of course, business administration/entrepreneurship.
Board Responsibilities: The MAP board meets every other month, with three meetings typically being conducted by conference call and three being held in-person (one in Washington DC and two somewhere in the 9-state service territory). The MAP board sets policy for agency, employs the Executive Director, establishes the agency budget, and completes strategic planning carried out by the Executive Director and 40+ staff members spread throughout the north central United States. The board ensures its programs remain impactful through its oversight of the Executive Director and its advocacy activities.
